ANGIE SCHNEIDER: The next thing that we are going to show you is how to stop with one foot. This is the second step for stopping. After you have mastered your snowplow stop, the next thing before you learn how to hockey stop is to learn how to use one foot to stop. You are going to be pushing on your inside edge of one of your feet, you will be coming in on a glide with your knees bent at a 90-degree angle, you will put one foot out in front of your body, have it turn slightly with your heel pushing out just like your snowplow stop and then you will push it to skate on the ice and you will come to a stop. Let us watch Jim demonstrate that for us. He is gliding and he pushes out one foot with his heel turned outwards and helps him come to a complete stop. Let us see that again. His knees are bent, his chest is out and he is going to be pushing on the inside edge of his skate and that is the first transition towards a hockey stop. Once you have mastered that, you are well on your way to becoming a hockey player.
