DR. CAMERON CRAVEN: Hi. I'm Dr. Cameron Craven from Westlake Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery, in Austin, Texas, and I'm going to give you a general overview of breast augmentation. Breast augmentation is a procedure by which a patient may enhance or enlarge the size of her breasts. It's also occasionally used to improve symmetry of the breasts. Breast augmentation surgery is generally performed by placing an implant generally made of silicon and filled with a silicon gel or saline, as the case may be, and which is placed beneath the muscle or above the muscle beneath the breast. Various incisions may be used and you should discuss with your doctor which type of implant as well implant placement and type of incision would be best for you.
