DR. CAMERON CRAVEN: Hi, I'm Dr. Cameron Craven from Westlake Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery in Austin, Texas. I'm going to talk to you a little bit about breast asymmetry correction surgery. The first thing to recognize with breast asymmetry corrections are to emphasize with the patient that while one breast may appear normal and the other breast appears abnormal to them, that they need to choose which breast they prefer in appearance. One breast may be excessively large while the other breast is excessively small. And while one approach may be to enlarge the small breast; another approach may be to reduce the large breast. And patients with excessive asymmetries both procedures may be performed at the same time in order to provide optimal outcomes. Breast enlargement surgery may involve placement of an implant, either silicon or saline, below the breast or below the muscle. While reduction surgery on the other side, may involve a lift alone or may involve actual reduction in the size and volume of the breast. For further information about breast asymmetry surgery, you should see a qualified cosmetic or plastic surgeon.
