About this Author

Dr. Craven grew up in the Austin, Texas area and attended the University of Texas at Austin. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology in only 3 years and received the College of Natural Sciences Distinguished Graduate Award. Dr. Cameron Craven completed a 6 year integrated residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He has received numerous awards and honors for academic achievement and has given presentations at local and national meetings regarding his research projects and scientific publications. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the Travis County Medical Society, Texas Medical Association and the Michael E. DR. CAMERON CRAVEN: Hi. This is Dr. Cameron Craven from Westlake Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery, and I'm going to talk to you a little bit about eyebrow lifts. As people age, the natural process is for people's brows to drop. This tends to create a tired or drowsy look to the eyes. It also tends to contribute to excess skin above the eyelids. People confuse this for needing an eyelid lift, when in fact, the brows are malpositioned. There's a number of different ways to approach eyebrow lifts, and each should be discussed with your physician or surgeon. One way is to approach the eyebrow directly through an incision directly above the hair of the brow. Other brow lift approaches may be performed from the hairline or behind the hairline using either endoscopic or endoscopic-assisted approaches. The type of approach will likely dictate what type of anesthesia and how long you will need to stay in the hospital afterwards. Most brow lift procedures are performed on an out-patient basis.
