DR. CAMERON CRAVEN: Hi. I'm Dr. Cameron Craven from Westlake Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery, and I'm going to talk to you a little bit about breast reduction. Breast reduction is generally performed as an out-patient surgery under general anesthesia. Ideal candidates for breast reduction include patients with excessively large or heavy breasts which may be causing underlying skin problems in the folds beneath the breasts or may be causing back pain or soreness or muscle aches, generally in the shoulders and upper back. Additionally, patients may notice that they have stretching of their nipple areolar complex as well as excessive drooping of the breasts. Various types of breast reduction surgeries are available, and each depends on the type of excessive breast tissue and skin that you may have. You should consult with your plastic and reconstructive surgeon to determine which type of breast reduction surgery is best for you.
