FELICIA FERRARA: Hello. I am Doctor Felicia. And I have been working with children and child assessment for over twenty five years, so I think I have something to add to you to help you in how to train, potty train your child, your toddler. It is a very, very frustrating time of the child's development, but what you need is a lot of patience. I think you already know that if you are trying it right now. So what I would like to do is have you kind of go through the scenario with me. You are potty training your child, and for instance they get upset and they stomp and they do not want to sit on the toilet. The last thing you want to do is get in to a tug of war of the minds with the child, because that certainly sets off a negative experience for the child as well and they do not want to come back. So what you want to do is make is as pleasant as possible. Possibly have some kind of cute music that they like to play playing in that bathroom. Make it a game-like event. Make sure that you applaud when they do it correctly. And by all means, make sure that whatever potty equipment you are using, whether it is a seat that goes in the toilet or they have their own luxurious little potty chair, make sure that it fits their feet completely, okay? So remember, patience, good attitude. Mom, do not get into a tug of war or mind of the war, war of the minds. And also, be sure to make it a pleasant experience for the child. If you do all those things, eventually your child will potty train. They all do sooner of later. So good luck and, by all means, happy potty training.
