About this Author

Franco Peraza is a highly seasoned and versatile Professional Ballroom and Latin Dance Instructor. Originally from Central California, Franco has taught for the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in addition to teaching independently at dance studios from the West to East Coasts. He owned and operated Studio 65 Dance Sport Center for 10 years. Throughout his career, Franco has choreographed and produced in-house shows, in addition to productions for stage, television and film, plus commercials for television and film. Now residing in NYC, Franco continues his passion for teaching at Stepping Out Studios. Simone Assboek has 15 years' experience teaching dance, and has been teaching at Stepping Out Studios, one of New York's most renowned Ballroom dance studios, since 2001. There, she added Hustle, Salsa, Swing and American Style Ballroom to her repertoire. Her passion for dance paved the way for her to perform at such events as the New York City Festival of Dance, and Midsummer Night's Swing at Lincoln Center.

FRANCO PERAZA: Hi, my name is Franco Peraza SIMONE ASSBOECK: And my name is Simone Assboeck. FRANCO PERAZA: We're both instructors at Stepping Out Studios in New York City. In this clip, we're going to teach you how to two step. There are many varieties of two step. There is a country two step and a nightclub two step. And what I'm going to demonstrate right now is the nightclub two step. Again, it's made up of side steps as one of your basic elements and rock steps. So we have a side, a rock, a side, a rock. Now, what is interesting about the nightclub two step is it can be done to many different tempos of music. It is used a lot for wedding dances. It has some basic turns to it. It is a very good dance for the beginner to learn. And muscle-wise, we're using the ribs, we're using the ankle muscles, we're using the quads, we're using the back of the thigh. We're using, of course, always the core engaging that with the upper part of our body and keeping the shoulder blades engaged. It is one of your slower dances. It's not an aerobic dance. But like swimming, it involves every muscle in the body. It's a very relaxed dance. It's more of a romantic dance, and that is how we nightclub two step.
