DR. GREGORY NIKOLAIDIS: Hi, this is Dr. Gregory Nikolaidis with Westlake Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery here to discuss liposuction. Liposuction is the removal of fat using a vacuum assisted cannula. It was originally performed in under general anesthesia and patient needs to be hospitalized. However, it since been performed with using only local anesthesia. This is known as tumescent technique. More recently, laser assisted liposuction has become popular. In laser assisted liposuction, we have inserted a laser cannula underneath the skin to provide further fat reduction and better skin tightening.
