DR. GREGORY NIKOLAIDIS: Hi, I'm Doctor Gregory Nikolaidis with Westlake Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery here to talk about body conturing. Body conturing is also known as liposuction. Liposuction was first developed about 30 years ago by physicians from Europe. Since that time, a number of improvements have been added to the technique to offer quicker and safer recovery. First of all, Doctor Jeffrey Klein developed the technique called tumescent liposuction where patients were able to undergo liposuction with just local anesthesia. This allows for quicker recovery and less bleeding. More recently, laser assisted liposuction has become popular. We in our clinic use a smart lipo. What this allows for is skin tightening and better contouring of the fat. By placing a laser probe underneath the skin before the liposuction, we're able to tighten the skin and achieve better results than we would with liposuction alone.
