JAMES TAYLOR: This is James Taylor of Portland State University, Portland State Lacrosse Club, and now I'm going to show you how to pass in Lacrosse. Essentially, what you want to do is you want to square up with your partner, one foot--left foot directly at your partner. Hands, far and away from your body, stick held, bottom hand at the butt, top hand, roughly 12 to 13 inches apart. From there, what you want to do is cock your stick back, get it parallel to the ground, hold, and with your overhand motion, as if you were throwing a baseball with your top hand, lead the stick and then aim with the bottom hand, pointing that stick end at your partner. Stick back, overhand pass. Proper body mechanics for throwing a Lacrosse ball consists of having your lead toe pointed at your partner, hips open, or turn sideways, toe pointing, arms extended, top hand 12 to 13 inches apart from your stick. When you release the ball with your top hand, what you want to do is take a step towards your partner and open your hips up. It's much like a baseball pitcher when they do their wind up. They wind up, turn, open their hips. It's the same thing with a Lacrosse pass, arms extended, toe pointed, come back, step, turn, pass. Same body mechanics as pitching.
