JASON WARREN: Hi! My name is Jason Warren. I'm a kickboxing instructor here in Miami Shores at Chi Martial Arts. In this clip we're going to discuss the kickboxing hooking knee strike also commonly called the swing knee. So from my fighting position, I'm grabbing my opponent's head, I bring my leg around in each of the target. The target with the hooking knee strike is the floating ribs, there's not a lot of muscle there. The impact target and surface is the outside of the knee as opposed to the knee itself. So from here what I'm doing in fact is bringing this leg out and it comes in like a slap. Oftentimes in the hooking knee we usually start off with a straight knee then we hook it around. It's a very, very effective tool and for exercise it really increase the cardiorespiratory and it really also opens up the hip flexes and intercostals muscles of the waist and a lot of times you work on your and it causes obliques by turning constantly. So for exercise, it's the best. The five points to remember with the kickboxing hooking knee strike you want to start from your fighting position, you want to reach forward, grab the opponent's neck or head, bring the outside leg around, hit into the target and then the other leg follows. So, again, it's usually set up the front to the side and back and then you want to again reload your stance.
