Another very important position is first base. It's a high traffic position. There are a lot of skills that are involved with playing first base, one of them being footwork. In footwork, you have to have good feet because not every throw is going come to first base on line so you have to be prepared to step either direction and try to pick that ball; jump up and catch that ball. Another one is good glove. They call third base the hot corner but there are a lot of left-handed hitters that can scorch a ball down to this line. You have to be with quick reflexes. You're not always playing back and deep. Some of the greats that played this position, J. T. Snow, Mark Teixeira, and Doug Mientkiewicz. They were all great at this position because of those qualities in their game.
