JIMMY GOETHALS: How are you doing? My name is Jimmy Goethals. I am with the Round Rock Express here in Round Rock, Texas. And we are going to go over how to create the best velocity possible as a pitcher. Kyle is going to demonstrate for you. I am just going to point out a few different aspects of how to get that maximum velocity. First, what you want to do is you want to make sure you are not gripping the ball too deep in your palm. You really want to hold it loose like an egg, get it out here in your fingertips. Kyle is going to show us. And you want to use these seams, and the seams are there for a reason. So that way--at the end, when we snap that ball, we want to see how many times we can make that ball rotate. The more times a ball rotates, the more backspin it will have, the longer it will stay in the air, the harder the ball is going to be. There is five different points that I like to use in pitching to create the best velocity. The first step, you just kind of rock back to create momentum. The second step is coming up and making sure we can balance. Before we can go forward, we need to sit. I like to use my--if I cut my body in half, I like to say my left half or my front side is brains, my back half is power. If my brains go anywhere else, my power does not mean anything. So when I am in two, I sit so I generate power with my back half. And when I come forward, my brains, my front half with my arm and my leg are going towards my target to generate that power. And when I come forward, I am pulling here. I am stretching the rubber band out to use my power more and to push off here. And at the end, I am going to snap with my fingers to get that extra power. Kyle here is going to show you how to do it. Step one, Kyle is going to rock back. Step two, he is going to lean up, keep that balance. Step three, he is going to sit on that back half to generate power. Step four, we separate--the brains are going forward, guiding us to the target. And five, towel snap and finish that pitch. Look at that. Awesome. Now, in step two, we want to make sure that we are able to balance so that we don't come forward, because we have to sit in step three before we go forward.
