JONATHON UY, M.D.: Hello, my name is Dr. Jonathon Uy and I'm going to talk about club foot. Club foot is a birth defect of the foot and ankle. It is usually found in infancy and it presents itself as a twisted or inverted foot. The symptoms of club foot are other than the foot deformity, there are no certain symptoms such as pain due to the fact that it is on an infant. Typically, they don't show any signs of crying or any symptoms that would present itself as pain. Basically, the treatment for club foot is made of multiple series of trials. One is joint manipulation, the other is a series of casting in which during the development of the child or infant, it would correct itself. There are also ways using braces and those do not work and at a certain age, surgery is required. There is no known prevention other than possible family history of club foot in previous generations. Once club foot has been determined, it is important to seek professional healthcare providers to help treat the foot deformity as soon as possible.
