KYLE HUTCHENS: My name is Kyle Hutchens. I'm a player with the Round Rocket Express, a AAA affiliate of the Houston Astros. I'm going to talk a little bit here about how to throw the best fastball you can. All right. Here, we'll start with the grip. And it came out, make sure you create that space. That way if you get it back here, you're not going to get as much velocity. So you want to keep it out here, keep it out here in your fingers. Right there--you get it right there along these wide seams. So we have the skinny ones right here for your normal fastball. The four-seam fastball, you want to grip it here or grip it out, make sure you have that space right there. Because if you get it back here, you're not going to get as much velocity on the ball. So you want to grip it right out here, right there. It's a perfect grip to throw a four-seam fastball. When you want to come through the fastball to create the most space--create the most velocity, come back here and tuck and you want to get up here, get this good drive, dip down and get that good drive here. And then when you come through right there, you come through the same thing. A good friend of mine likes to refer to it as your brain and your power. When you come through, right here, this is your brain right here. This is your power. If one of them comes over here, they're not meeting. So you want to keep where the brain and power will come together and come through and follow through. One good thing to also come through is when you come through like this--when you come through, you want to bring your glove in like this. It helps create leverage. It's putting more velocity on the ball. And that's very, very key with a fastball, especially when you're referring to this. Here's a little example of what it looks like in pitching.
