DR. LISA RHODES: Hi, I'm Doctor Lisa Rhodes with Westlake Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery. It's very common to experience hair loss after having a baby. It's called telogen effluvium. And basically what happens is your body holds onto hairs that should typically be shedding while you're pregnant and then after you deliver the baby; you shed all of those hairs and experience significant hair loss. Usually it's self limited and your hair should thicken back up over time. The best treatment for it is continue your prenatal vitamin and make sure that you're eating a healthy diet. Rarely it can be linked with thyroid disease so if you're significantly concerned, I would mention it to your obstetrician or dermatologist.
