DR. LISA RHODES: Hi, I'm Doctor Lisa Rhodes with Westlake Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery. Toners are an optional part of the skin treatment regimen. If you opt to use a toner, I recommend looking for one with an active ingredient such as salicylic acid or glycolic acid if you're treating acne. That can help exfoliate the top layer of the skin and unclog the pores. If you're just using a toner to help cleanse the skin, ones that contain witch hazel and not too much alcohol are best because you don't want to overly irritate the skin.
