DR. LISA RHODES: Hi, I'm Doctor Lisa Rhodes with Westlake Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery. Blackheads are a common problem most often seen on the nose and chin. If you want to extract the blackheads yourself, I recommend that you find a commodone extractor available at any pharmacy. Its a little metal stick that has a donut hole at the end and it applies even pressure around the blackhead when you're extracting it. The challenge is if you go after it with your fingers and try to extract it that way, you can actually damage the hair follicle and then lead to acne bumps or a larger pore there that will just be more obvious.
