DR. LISA RHODES: Hi, I'm Doctor Lisa Rhodes with Westlake Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery. Using aspirin to treat acne is a very old home remedy in which you mash up an aspirin, mix it in a little bit of water and then you put the paste on the pimple to help dry up the pimple faster. The salicylic acid that's in the aspirin helps with this and the salicylic acid is also available in much more cosmetically elegant products over-the-counter that are sold as spot treatment for pimples. Many of the medicated acne washes that are out there also contain salicylic acid and this can really help dry up acne, active acne as well as exfoliate the top layer of your skin to help prevent further acne outbreaks.
