Dr. Loretta Ciraldo, the author of the book Six Weeks to Sensational Skin, is a board certified dermatologist who has made numerous appearances on television shows such as Good Morning America. She holds a degree from Hunter College in New York, an M.D. from Downstate University at SUNY, and did her residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Ciraldo has been a board-certified dermatologist since 1982, and is currently a voluntary professor at the University of Miami, where she runs a clinic in cosmetic dermatology.

DR. LORETTA CIRALDO: Hi, I'm Dr. Loretta Ciraldo, voluntary professor of Dermatology at University of Miami and a practicing dermatologist for nearly 30 years. Now, brow lifts are something that are of interest even to me personally because a brow lift talks about a cosmetic treatment where we're taking the eyebrows and lifting them just a little bit, and of course, that's a wonderful thing by middle age because through the effects of gravity and time, our faces have a shifting down of our brows and that's one of the foremost aging changes in the aging phase. Now, up until about 5 years ago, brow lifts were done mostly by Plastic Surgery where a physician, a plastic surgeon, would go in and make little cuts in the hairline and simply lift the forehead so that the brows would go up, but during the last 5 years there has been a big shift. So that, now, the most commonly performed kind of brow lift is called the "Botox brow lift" where physicians like me and other dermatologists and plastic surgeons put very small doses of Botox right at the hairline, and they inhibit the pulling down of our brows by our upper forehead muscles. If you want to see if you are a good candidate for a Botox brow lift, what you need to do is stand in front of the mirror and simply lift your brows a little bit; lift your upper forehead a little. If you see that your brows lift, then you are a good candidate, but if instead when you lift your brows, there's some sagging skin above your eyelids, then you're someone who really needs a surgical approach to remedy the problem and not simply the Botox brow lift approach.
