Dr. Loretta Ciraldo, the author of the book Six Weeks to Sensational Skin, is a board certified dermatologist who has made numerous appearances on television shows such as Good Morning America. She holds a degree from Hunter College in New York, an M.D. from Downstate University at SUNY, and did her residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Ciraldo has been a board-certified dermatologist since 1982, and is currently a voluntary professor at the University of Miami, where she runs a clinic in cosmetic dermatology.

DR. LORETTA CIRALDO: Hi. I'm Dr. Loretta Ciraldo, voluntary professor of Dermatology at University of Miami School of Medicine, and a practicing Dermatologist for nearly 30 years. Now, with all of my years of experience, one product that I used to love was called "collagen" and collagen was an injectable product that we would put into creases to eliminate shadows and all, but want to update you on collagen to tell you that right at this point in time, so this is Spring of 2008, pretty much injectable collagen is not available to physicians anymore. It has now been updated by another, we believe, better product called "hyaluronic acid" and the companies that were making the injectable collagen have now switched the kind of filler to be used. So, I want to alert you to this, because you may have a doctor who suggests you to do a collagen injection, and I really just want you, if you're so inclined, to ask the doctor if you can see the box that he is getting the product from. If you can look at the expiration date, and you may want to do just a bit of research before you decide that you want collagen injections. This is not to say that they are not safe and a nice product, but the reason why they are being phased out of the market is because collagen fillers did not last all that long, and unfortunately many men and woman who have collagen were originally very pleased with the results, but sometimes as soon as two months after these expensive treatments, they'd find that all of their benefit was gone. So, really what we need to do is to talk to you more about newer fillers, which we have also right on our site.
