MARK BREWERTON: In this segment, we are going to cover the kicking involved in the game of rugby, which includes clearing the ball to touch from a defensive situation, which we are about to show you, also putting a kick-up, e.g. an up-and-under, to put pressure on the defending team and hope that they will either knock it on, let it bounce, and come through to create attacking opportunities. In this picture we are going to show right here, to my left, we have a halfback clearing to our first 5, inside is 22, looking to find touch, which will then become an attacking line-out for the defensive team back down in the near 22. So to my left, [PH] Karl is going to pass the ball to [PH] Dylan, who is going to clear it now. As you can see, the ball is in front of him. He is looking for touch. Boom. Example right there. That kick was unsuccessful because we needed that to go out. If that kick stays in play like it did, it gives them a counter attacking opportunity. So in the next example we are going to show is Dylan finding touch, which then leads to a line-out, which gives us a chance to contest their ball inside their territory. Again, we will look to our left here, ball is clearing from the base of a scrum or a ruck, Dylan is clearing, bingo. We have touch. So what happens now is the line-out is right there, which then we form there two lines and we will go up and contest for the ball.
