MICHELLE COOPER: Next, we are going to talk about breakfast. Breakfast is indeed the most important meal of the day. You have probably heard, "Eat breakfast like a king, eat lunch as a prince and eat dinner like a pauper." Breakfast gets your metabolism going in the morning. After you fasted all night, it actually is your break from your fast. It is also a great way to start getting those 25 grams of fiber that they recommend, because most breakfast foods that you want to choose are going to be made from whole grains. You can check the cereals behind me. And on the ingredient, the first thing you want to look for is whole grain. If you are having a hot cereal like oatmeal or oat bran, you are going to be getting a lot of insoluble and soluble fiber, which is healthy, and also it produces a feeling of fullness or satiety that will keep you full until you get to eat your next meal, which is usually lunch. Another good choice for breakfast would be to have a low-fat or non-fat yogurt or some other source of low-fat protein, maybe an egg white omelet. Having a slice of whole wheat toast with your breakfast in the morning is also going to contribute to that 25 grams of fiber needed everyday. In addition, you may want to go ahead and have a source of vitamin C like orange juice, especially if you are taking your multivitamin in the morning. Just remember that breakfast is the most important meal. Most people that eat breakfast are successful at losing and maintaining their weight loss. Number one, you want to choose a whole grain source of breakfast or something that is going to get you the fiber that you need for the day. You might want to add a lean source of protein, and lastly maybe some vitamin C, especially if you are complementing that with your multivitamin.
