MIKE JONES: Hi, I am Mike Jones from AZ-HI-AZ-I-AM. I am here today to help you learn how to stand up on your surfboard. First things first, on land, you just want to kind of practice spreading your legs about shoulder width apart and finding, kind of bending your knees, imagining yourself on the board. You do not want to just get out in the water and try to figure it all out, out there. So, what I do when I am doing some surf instruction is I will have everybody on the beach, put their legs apart, kind of imagine they are on the board, bend the legs, kind of feel your arms like the movements of surfing, so that once you get out in the water, you know, you have a little bit in your head about little knowledge of bending your knees and about where your feet want to be. Kind of a pre-trainer for once you get out there. You know how to paddle now, you are paddling for the wave, you catch the wave, you pop up, you are standing up and you do not know where to put your feet, okay? You are going to start feeling, you know, if you have your foot too far forward you are going to feel the board, the nose is going to sink, or if you have it too far out on the rail over here, it is going to turn to one side and you are going to tip the board. If you are too far in the back, the board is going to be--it is just not going to be plane through the water right. Just keep your feet centered and apart, and then just work with this. Start doing little micro adjustments with your feet. You are on your way to a good day of surfing.
