MIKE VERA: Hello. Today, we want to talk about bunions. Bunions are an irritation of the great toe, one of the joints of the great toe. You could see here on this one how it bulges out. What happens is the primary cause is poorly fitting shoes. In women, it's high heels. And you can see how it narrows down and causes the great toe to point inward. There are some pretty easy, simple solutions, short of seeing a physician. You can purchase commercial spacers. It's what you put between the great toe and the second toe to help bring that angle back. Or if you don't want to do that, you can also get a small piece of foam, cut it, place it between the toes, take a little bit of tape and do that. One precaution to be aware of: tingling of the toes. If you do, then perhaps the pressure is too good. You could loosen up the tape. Wear good shoes; take care of your feet.
