MIKE VERA: I would like to talk about injuries above the eye. Now, you want to be aware of the eye, the orbit and right above it. The mechanism of injury here can be any number of things. It can be an elbow during basketball; it can be dropping weights; it can be getting hit by a flinging hand during aerobics; any kind of injury to the above the eye. We like to use ice. We think ice is the best thing for it. But beware of a couple of things: prolonged headache; field of vision problems, either long- or short-term visions, our peripheral vision. Those obviously might be an emergency room visit. But any time you have injuries like swelling above the eye, ice is great. Again, 20 minutes an hour. Be aware of the skin. If you're sensitive to ice, then put a wet towel in and then the ice. Be aware of your vision; be aware of your headache. If you can take aspirin, ibuprofen, Motrin, it may help you. But ice, in this case, is probably the best thing for you.
