SAMUEL ROBERTS: Hi, this is Sam Roberts, your field hockey coach. In this segment, we will talk about playing forward in field hockey. Playing forward in field hockey is a lot like soccer. Basically, we've got four different positions on the forward line. You've got the left wing, right wing, inside left, inside right and the center forward. Those are all possible positions in the offensive line of a hockey team. You've got four positions: left wing, right wing, inside left, inside right, center forward. Those are four possible positions on a field hockey team. What we will do is, depending on your approach of the game, you could have a very offensive setting or a very defensive setting. In a very offensive setting, you would find yourself having four forwards, three midfielders, three defenders. On the right-wing position, it is basically a line of attack where you use the right side of the field. The center or inside right basically plays a supporting role to the right wing and to the center forward. The center forward is the person who controls the forward line. And the same goes on the left side. It's just the reverse. The inside left is the supporting role to the left wing and to the center forward.
