SAMUEL ROBERTS: Hi, this is Sam Roberts, your field hockey coach. In this segment, we will talk about playing goalkeeper in field hockey. Positioning and goal keeping is another key part of the game. The goalkeeper's responsibility is the goal. It is a little bit smaller than a soccer goal. It's about half the size of a soccer goal. So a field hockey goalkeeper has got to be very aware of his position in terms of where the goal is and where the attack is coming. Ninety-five percent of goal keeping is being in the right place at the right time. If you got a shot, you can just be in the right position and you make the save. So that is an extremely important part. While reflexes is another very important part of goal keeping. Nine times out of ten, you don't have time to respond. You don't have time to plan your response. It's just a reflex movement, reflex with your hand or reflex with your stick or your leg, and that makes a difference between a goal and saving the goal.
