TIM BORLAND: Hi, my name is Tim Borland. Today we're going to talk about how to jog. And when jogging, there are several things that you want to think of just in the basic format, as you're getting ready to head out and hit the road. Some good things to think about, really important, starting with the feet. You want to make sure you have good footwear when you're running. We want to make sure that your stride is comfortable and it's in control, that your feet are coming down in front of you. You want your stride length not to be too long. You want it to be comfortable so that you're coming down--it's really good to come down on the flats of your feet and not so much on the heel. And so, you can actually look down at your feet oftentimes when you're jogging and see how you're doing with your foot placement. You want really your midsection all the way up to be fairly relaxed. It's really good to save your energy and direct it to your legs and to the areas that you need. So you want to try to keep a firm midsection but kind of around--your core's going to support you. But you want your shoulders, you want your chest, you want your--kind of your neck, things to be relaxed. What you will find is, you do want to have your arms bent and you want to have an arm swing. It's really difficult to jog with your hands dropped by your side. You could try it sometime if you go jogging, you can try dropping your arms. Again, you want your arms to be up and about a 90-degree on your elbow, and as you swing from the shoulders, this will again, it will help drive you and propel you as you're jogging. But then again, as you move up into the neck and the face, you want to stay relaxed. You want your head to be centered over your body, even leaning forward a little bit. You don't want your head to be back or to be dropped forward. Don't tuck your chin down. Just keep an upright form as you're running.
