YISHAI HOROWITZ: Hello, my name is Yishai and today we're going to be talking about how to do fire road running. Fire road running is very similar to running on a road with the exception of the terrain. It's generally dirt and there's occasional obstacles like rocks, there's plants on either side. They're generally not as well kept as roads. So you just--you need to be looking out for those obstacles that could impede your movement. One obstacle you do have especially out here in the west coast on fire roads is off highway vehicle traffic. So it could be dirt bikes, quads, off--or four wheel drive vehicles, so be careful for those especially those dirt bikes. They can sneak up on you pretty quick. Unlike roads, they can also take you out into great places. Some of the beautiful state parks out here, national parks; they have fire roads that link up everything. Somehow those roads were installed years and years ago and they just go everywhere. So you can really travel around and see a place in depth on the fire roads versus the roads. So, to get information to find those fire roads, you can look at your topographical maps right here. Fire roads are generally always listed on here, unlike trails which aren't always. There's also ranger stations that have a fire road information. Alright so, there are some hazards in the fire road running as there are in everything. So before you go, you want to check out any signs that might be posted at the trail heads or any signs that might be posted at the ranger stations. Check it out.
