CAROLANN: This is how to do boot camp calisthenics with kids. Now if you have ever watched kids on a playground and how they move about, they really start at one piece of equipment and then they run to another piece of equipment so they may start off at the swing set and then they ran to the monkey bars. They play on the monkey bars for a little bit and then they run to the sliding board. So there is really no endurance involved in kids activities on a daily basis when they are playing so what you want to do is you want to emulate the way kids play, so it is a little different than how you would do something with an adult. So you want to get some fun activities to do with the kids where you are alternating resistance training with cardio training. So for example, a simple jump rope would be a great cardio activity that you can do with kids and it is lot of fun and set up stations that are about one minute long and so that would be really good to do for a minute and then switch it up to a resistance type of exercise so you can use light weights for resistance for kids doing bicep curls or lateral raises. Now the thing with resistance is you want to keep the weights light so we do not want to overdo the muscles, especially if they are under 12 years old, so we really want to do light resistance and do more reps so light weight and maybe for about a minute. Another great piece of equipment that you can do resistance-wise is tubing, and tubing is excellent for kids to work with and that will really develop muscular endurance. Another fun thing that you can do is set up cones and play games, anything that you can do game oriented to get their heart rate up, that will engage them into the activity and they will want to do it longer. And then you can also do some resistance training with the medicine ball. So anything you can do, short bouts of cardio or resistance, and that will give you a great boot camp activity for kids.
