PATTY BURROWS: How to help your teen apply for college: begin in elementary school talking about the importance of education; be consistent about the value of education; support your child in all academic endeavours. When a child enters high school in 9th grade, stress the importance of good grades, good citizenship, good discipline and good attendance. Help your child develop a list of references. Encourage them to participate in extracurricular activities and community activities as well. Be aware of dates and deadlines for admission tests and results, and application deadlines as well. See your school guidance counselor to guide you through the process of applying for college. This should help you in setting goals for helping your child apply for college.
