DURRELLE JONES: Hi. I'm Durrelle from Elle Hair and Nail in St. Petersburg, Florida. I would like to talk to you today about cutting young people's hair. When they come in, it's usually a conflict with parents from the get-go because of the length or the style the child is going to want. The best thing to do is have a book on hand of the latest styles that you can open up and you can show to the parents and the teenager so that they might be able to come to a compromise on the style that they can both like. Teenagers have a preconceived idea of what they would like to have, and I suggest keeping your razor out and your scissors because you'll probably use both. Today's styles are a little erratic and they're a little fun to play with when you use mousses and gels and hair sprays to keep them in place, but it can be a very interesting experience if you keep a good attitude. I would say in dealing with these children, try to be a friend to both the parents and the child and let them both speak to each other about what they both could compromise on.
