After a successful college career at Duke University , Bennett played in the National Football League (NFL), the United States Football League (USFL), the Arena Football League (AFL), and the World League of American Football (WLAF). He coached in the AFL and af2. He was inducted into the Arena Football Hall of Fame as a player in 2000.

BEN BENNETT: How are you doing, gang? I'm Ben Bennett, head coach of the Austin Wranglers of the AF2 football league and I'm about to teach you how to catch a football. Helping me will be John Roberson. Although he's 4 foot 8, he's one of the best wide receivers in the whole ring of football league. What I'm going to teach you and what I teach my guys is when the ball's thrown to him; try not to let that ball get to your body. You want your receiver to have his hands up to make a thumbs in catch if the ball is high and make a thumbs out catch if the ball is low. So if the ball is up here, thumbs in, balls down here, thumbs out. And I'll try to show Robo, if you film Robo, we'll show you what I'm talking about. The ball comes in high; it's the thumbs in catch. If the ball is coming in low, it's a thumb out catch. And you'll see that no matter where he catches the football, once he catches it, both hands are on it, whether it's here or there, and once he's caught it, he's putting the ball away. And that's how you catch the football.
