RICARDO BELLOT: Hi, my name is Ricardo Bellot. I am an instructor here at Premier Martial Arts here in New York City, Midtown. In this clip, we are going to show you how to do a karate groin kick. Now, a groin kick is just a different variation of a front kick. Instead of hitting with the ball of the foot with the standard front kick, we will use the end step, the top of the foot, okay? The same mechanics apply, okay? Knee comes up and I snap the foot out, boom, right into the groin and right back to where I originally started, okay? When executing this technique it is really sharp, really quick and it is hard to avoid. Up and down, okay? Up and down, okay? So again, you lift up, launching your body forward strike with the instep rising up, right back down, back to where you originally started, okay? Now, in a real life situation, if this guy wanted to come in, he grabs me, he can go here. I can easily just come in, boom. Right there and I can follow off any other combination from there, okay? So again, this is a great defensive technique even if he is coming in a wide, sweeping motion, before he can even get back I can strike him. Your legs are a longer target, longer weapon; you can catch him from a long distance. From here, boom. Just that simple. And that is how you do a karate groin kick.
