RICARDO BELLOT: Hi, my name is Ricardo Bellot. I am an instructor here at Premier Martial Arts here in New York City, Midtown. In this clip, we are going to talk about how to do karate middle block. Now, there are two different variations on how to execute a middle block. A middle block is very good. It's circular motion; it's really tight, circular motion. So this is the first variation, inside of your body to the outside of your body, okay? You are using your forearm as your shield, okay? Now, the other variation, you come from the outside of your body on the inside. Now, let me show you how this works, okay? Now if an opponent is coming in with an outside attack, from the outside of his body, inside, I will use the inside-outside middle block. So, I will step in as he comes in, striking his forearm, deflecting his attack, redirecting his attack and then exposing him for me to attack of my own, okay? Now, the outside-inside middle block, if he is coming straight in, I will come in, boom, redirect his attack that way, striking his forearm with my forearm, boom, here, leaving him exposed for a counter attack. Here and here. So for example, now if he throw a rapid succession, so he throws one wide. I can go here, one end, boom, I can counterattack, strike, here, okay? Now, one more time. If he comes in really fast--you go real time--and he comes in and I come in. That is how you do a karate middle block.
