JAY GOLDEN: I am going to show you how to hit one of the most important shots in golf, the pitch shot. Why is a pitch shot such an important shot? Well, let me ask you this, did this ever happened to you, you miss a green in regulation? Never did? Hey, good going. Just in case you did. You know even Tiger only averages hitting 13 or 14 greens a round. And what saves his round every time? When he is near the green, he pitches up close to the hole and he makes the putt. That is a pitch shot. You have to teach your wedge to talk if you want to start playing consistently good golf, because nobody hits all the greens. And it is those who hit it off the green, chip it and pitch it close to the hole and make the putt, those are the ones who score and win. The basic way to hit a pitch shot whether you use a sand wedge or a 60 degree wedge, your feet are closed together, your hands and the club is in front of the ball, and you hit the ground after you hit the ball. That is the basic technique. And it is a good idea to take very short pitch shots. Hit the ball just 10 or 15 feet and learn how to hit the ball solidly. And once you learn that, then you stay in that same position and hit it harder and harder. Teach your wedge to talk, learn how to hit pitch shots and you are going to improve your score. No doubt about it. As you could see, my feet are very close together. My hands are a little in front of the ball. I am confident that I could make solid contact. That is so important. Many people when they start, their hands are behind the ball, they are too wide and they think that they were either going to hit the ball fat or skull it and very often they do. Your stance; close together, comfortable. You feel confident that you can hit the ground after you hit the ball. This is for a normal pitch shot. If you wanted to hit it shorter, you hit it easier. If you wanted to hit it longer, you hit it harder. But this is just a normal pitch shot from off the green. Teach your wedge to talk. Get good at pitch shots, you will lower your score, I guarantee it.
