BRANDON SLAY: When a guy has a really strong stagger stance that means it's very difficult to get to both legs when you attack. So you have to have a back up plan. So instead of attacking for two legs you need to create an angle and attack for guy's lead leg and it's called a high crotch, shooting up into the guy's crotch. So I'm going to use Steven and Robert again to demonstrate. All right guys. So say, for example, let's use--you should be the defense guy this time, let's say for example, Robert's really leaning on his right leg real heavy and he has his trail leg really, really far back. If that's the case, if his trail leg, hit it further, back the trail leg. When Steven lowers level and goes to shoot a double leg, Robert can pull that left leg back real far. Go ahead and shoot a double leg, he'll shoot the double leg and he can't pull that left leg back real far and makes it hard to get a double leg. So we need to have a back up plan. And the back up plan is a high crotch. What a high crotch looks like is instead of attacking two legs, high crotch is singular, right? One thing. He's going to shoot high up into his hips and he's going to focus on Robert's lead leg, he's going to shoot towards one leg. So it looks like this was the heavy leg, everything is very similar if it gets close enough. Again, if you can't touch him, if you can't touch him don't shoot. If you can touch him, you're close enough to shoot. But the first thing you always want to do even before high crotch as in every shot, step number one, lower your level. Say Robert's hand is right here, Steven lowers his level. Step number two, he's going to pound his knee but this time instead of attacking double leg he's going to attack high up in his crotch. Step two explode and attack high crotch him. Head up, back straight, hips in. So, again, notice he's not attacking both legs; he's attacking high in his crotch. This move is called the high crotch. Come spin around now, spin back around. So lower to his level, pound his knee, attack time to crotch, step three. It's just the same thing we've been doing just on the double leg. We missed it often. We're going to bring the trail leg up and good position head up, back straight, hips in. A fourth thing, just like a double leg, he's going to pivot his foot and it's even more important than high crotch to pivot your foot to create an angle. Pivot, toe in the mat, head up, back straight, hips in. Now this high crotch he's really going to start looking over towards the tee, towards the angle. And the fifth step, the penetration. Your going to step up and across at a tee. But here's the difference, in high crotch you're going to switch from his crotch, he's going to drive across to the double leg. That's why it's important to learn the double leg first so you know how to finish the double leg. So now we know how to finish the double leg, we know how to finish this high crotch. So Steven pivots, can step up and across, he's going to finish with a double leg. Go, drive across. Just like that. Steven why don't you hit one high crotch on Robert and Robert's going to hit a high crotch on you. Hit a nice high crotch, drive across. All right, Robert you come a bit high crotch on Steven. Grab across. Good.
