DR. MARK ADDICKES: Let me tell you a little bit about iliopsoas tendinitis. The iliopsoas is the hip flexor, so that's what allows you to lift your leg. And any running athlete, cycling athlete who has pain in the groin, very often that can be your iliopsoas. Usually, it can be treated with just a stretching program. When the pain gets worse consult your doctor. He can get you in some physical therapy. Very often with a focused stretching program, you can avoid the need for any further intervention. When the pain gets bad enough, we can put an injection of some cortisone-type medicine to get rid of the inflammation. So like a lot of muscle problems, if you stretch well, keep the hip-girdle muscles strong, you can avoid a problem. But if the pain gets bad enough consult your physician.
