JANEY EISNER: My name is Janey Eisner and I'm an adult that lives with attention deficit disorder with hyperactivity. I was not diagnosed until I was an adult, but my whole life I've realized that I had a problem concentrating, staying still, focusing, and it was a struggle for me to get through school. It was rather a relief to find out that there was a medication that I could use to help me cope with the symptoms of ADD. To help me cope with my illness, I have actually come up with a few different methods. One of them is my day planner, which keeps my clients. It keeps track of my clients and all my scheduling and all my social appointments as well. Just recently, I realized I could use a portable small tape recorder so when I can't write things down, such as driving, when I'm in my car, which is a lot of the time, I just turn my recorder on and leave myself messages, and that seems to work really well. I never really had a support group until I met my fiancee. And he's a computer wiz and he has gotten me involved in the Internet now, which really helps with my contact lists and that sort of thing. So he is the one that's really helping me try to focus because he's very focused. If you're prescribed a medication, try to take it at the same time everyday. Just remember to take it daily. Keep it with you if you have to. A day planner is great tool for me because I'm not at a desk in front of a computer. The tape recorder, I think, is going to be my best friend. I'm going to take it with me everywhere. And having somebody in your life that can help you get through the challenging times is really been my biggest friend. If you find out that you have ADD or you suspect you do, try to get diagnosed and try to research ways to cope with it. I've raised two children and been successful at my careers. You just have to keep plugging away and trying to find what works for you, and there is something out there that can help you.
