JACKIE SILVER: I'm Jackie Silver with how to steam treat acne. Looking our best can help improve self-esteem and give us more confidence. But many people suffer from acne and it's not just in the teenage years either. Acne can affect people of all ages. One way to treat acne is to give yourself a steam treatment. Steaming helps to open the pores softening the impurities that may be blocking them and making the extraction process easier. A steam treatment is also comforting and relaxing allowing you to let go of stress which is a common contributor to skin eruptions. As always, it's best to check with your doctor before administering any self-treatments. To steam treat acne, all you need is a pot with some water, a large towel and a few sprigs of mint. Fill the medium pot about three quarters full with water and bring the water to a boil. Add the mint and let it continue boiling for a few minutes. Using a pot holder, move the pot to a hot pad or a trivet on the table where you can sit comfortably to take in the steam. Take the towel and make a tent over your head. So I'm just going to show you. Like this. And breathe in the steam but be sure to keep your face far enough away from the pot so you don't burn yourself, and remember not to touch the pot with you bare hands. Allow the steam to wash over your skin, penetrating the acne and softening the impurities. Breathing in the mint has added benefits such as relieving any congestion you might have, as well as, alleviating allergy symptoms. It also has natural calming properties. Keep your head under that towel, soaking up the steam until the water becomes cold, about 10 minutes, depending on the room temperature. Then you can extract the impurities or simply rinse with cold water to close the pores. Remember when steam treating for acne, be sure your head is a good distance from the hot water to avoid burning yourself and don't touch the pot with your bare hands.
