RACHAEL RICHARDSON: Hi. I'm Rachael Richardson, and I'm a registered dietitian and a licensed nutritionist. I'm from Nutrolution, Inc., and we are located in Miami, Florida. This is a beginner's guide to eating healthy. Now eating healthy is big topic so you might wonder how are we going to address this in just one minute. The answer is that if you focus on eating whole, natural foods versus processed foods, this is about as the most important rule that you'll ever need to know. So just take a survey of the foods that you're eating. Ask yourself, do this food come from a tree? Was it picked out of the ground? Was it grazing on grass or feeding on algae in the ocean? If not, then ask yourself how far from that point did it actually come. So you can take the example of oats, an oatmeal, the whole oats are the most natural form; whereas when you get down to the one-minute instant oatmeal with apple cinnamon flavor and sugar, then you're a bit farther away from the whole food. You can also take Fruit Roll-Ups for example, and you know that you cannot pick a Fruit Roll-Up from a tree, so really focus on getting your whole foods like your fruits, your vegetables, your real whole grains like your quinoa and your oats, your protein foods like your fish and your poultry and your whole healthy fats like olives and olive oil and nuts and avocados and seeds. Another great example that you can look at, in terms of assessing whether it's a whole food, is olives and oil. So look at your oil and figure out, did this come straight from an olive? Or in the case of vegetables, did they have to go through heat processing to become corn oil. Five healthy foods to remember are fruits, vegetables, healthy fats like nuts and avocados, healthy proteins and water.
