JACKIE SILVER: I'm Jackie Silver with how to use milk for your skin. It's been written that Egyptian Pharaoh Cleopatra's secret for beautiful skin was her milk baths. Of course, Cleopatra's milk of choice for these luxurious soaks was camel's milk, but you can use readily available cow's milk or even goat's milk for your skin. In ancient times, when Cleopatra was bathing in milk, they may not have known why the milk made her skin so supple, but modern scientists have answered that age-old question. The lactic acid in the milk is an alphahydroxy acid that scientists have found exfoliates or removes dead skin cells to reveal the youthful new skin below. Milk can cleanse those dead skin cells away and it couldn't be simpler to use. Of course, if you're allergic to milk and dairy products, you should not try this at home and it's always best to check with your doctor before trying any home remedies. For exfoliating and moisturizing using milk, add two to four cups of fresh milk to your bath water as you're filling the tub. You can even use buttermilk or powdered milk or some people like to add a few tablespoons of coconut oil or a teaspoon of almond oil for the light scent and added moisturizing effects of natural oils. Soak in the milk bath for 15 to 20 minutes using a loofah or a wash cloth to remove the dead skin. Rinse the milk off thoroughly after soaking. Remember, if you're allergic to dairy products, then you want to avoid using milk for your skin.
