RACHAEL RICHARDSON: Hi. I'm Rachael Richardson and I'm a registered dietician and a licensed nutritionist. I'm from Nutrolution, Inc. and we are located in Miami, Florida. This is the "Beginner's Guide to Drinking More Water." Now, when I sit down with clients all over, I find that if they could only make one change in their health and in their life, the simplest thing to do would be to remove all the other things that they're drinking and start drinking more water. And actually that is maybe the simplest thing that you can do to improve your health. So if you're taking nothing else, take that today, and most really think that water tastes bad and that is absolutely not true. There are so many ways that you can make water taste delicious and have tones of different beverages throughout the day and enjoy them. So I'll just tell you some of my favorite tricks are to drink mineral waters or sparkling water. Adding either lemon or lime or a splash of cranberry juice or even half of a fresh orange squeezed into it. Other tricks that I employ every single day are making herbal teas, green teas. I sometimes refrigerate them. Sometimes, add another flavor to it like a lemon to those teas. Another thing that I hear a lot is that people, adults, children don't enjoy drinking water which is so common and some tricks that I actually for my niece are to take vitamin C powder or Emergen-C and to add it to water. Kids love this; it tastes like fruit punch to them. Other things that you can do is you can tell them that you're creating a soft drink like Sprite for them and all that you need to do is take some sparkling water, maybe half a teaspoon or full teaspoon of a real maple syrup and a little bit of lemon and lime and squeeze it in there and you've got your own homemade natural version of Sprite without any of the added chemicals or artificial flavors. The five points to remember are make your water taste delicious. Use herbal teas, eat more fruits, use sparkling mineral water, and aim for eight glasses.
