DR. CORAL ARVON: Hi. My name is Dr. Coral Arvon. I'm a licensed clinical psychotherapist with Arvon & Associates and counseling in Aventura, Florida. In this clip, we will be talking about how to treat an anxiety disorders with Zoloft. Zoloft is often prescribed by your psychiatrist. It takes about two weeks to really take effect so be patient. Along with Zoloft, there are a lot of psychological techniques we can use. Of course the basics, breathing, exercising, eating well and sleeping well, but along with that we have to take and look at our thoughts. Anxiety is caused by thoughts, thoughts and perceptions. How we think is how we feel. So, look at the anxious thoughts and we take a look at our behaviors. What are they producing? How do we need to change? What is causing us the trouble? There are physical symptoms that go with anxiety also, heart palpitations, sweat palms, feelings of losing control, all which we can treat with medication and without medication if you'd like. Always get professional help for anxiety, because anxiety does have a tendency to get worse. It might start where you're feeling a little anxious, going out of the house, but you go out and you manage to not wanting to drive, to not wanting to leave the house at all. So anxiety has a very difficult, dangerous potential. Treat anxiety. Don't leave it for someone else. Go treat it. Family and friends get support and get help. So the five important things to remember about anxiety is go to you doctor to get you medication, your Zoloft, do some self-hypnosis, deep breathing, go for help so that you can learn how to think differently, and learn to relax.
