Hi, my name is Joe Ann Ganci. I've been a barber since 1980, and I'm going to demonstrate how to trim sideburns. We use a small clipper and a comb. And first, of course, you ask the patron what--how they would like their side burns, and a lot of guys are wearing them thin these days, so you could cut them real thin and long, or you could--whichever they prefer. It's a personal preference, so everybody's different. You just ask them how they like to wear them. Then you thin them down, so you could take some of the thickness out of there; and then, of course, the length would be up to him. And you take them to the length preferred. And if he wants it half the ear, you cut the first one, half the ear. You walk around to the front of him and you measure straight on, because no two sides of the face are even. The ears are quite different. A couple of things to remember is always ask the patron how they like their sideburns, never assume how somebody wears their sideburns, because it's all different. Everybody has a personal preference on how they like to wear their sideburns, and they will get very upset if you do it wrong, so always ask them and just make sure you got it--you got them even, and the way to do that is walk in front of him and look straight on at the patron.
