Hi, my name is Joe Ann, and I've been a barber since 1980. And I'm going to demonstrate how to get a beard trim. Obviously, he doesn't have a beard but he has a goatee, so I would use a smaller clipper. If he had a full beard, I'd take it down to the length he wanted and then edge it out along the face wherever he wants it. Everybody wears it differently, so you have to just ask the patron what he prefers. They wear it real thin now. They call it chin straps, and they wear a real thin line all the way around. With a comb, you can take it and clean up the edges what's kind of hanging out there and comb it to the side and just make a nice clean line underneath. You always want to make a nice, clean line underneath and along the edges. [demonstration] And you always ask them the length they prefer, of course, never assume. [demonstration] And there are several different clippers you could use---this is one of the smallest ones---depending on how thick the beard is. And a few things to remember, just make sure your edging is nice, however you prefer it, the thickness and the length that you want. You don't want to take it down too far if they want a little bit of beard left, so you put a bigger blade on the clipper and leave it a little longer and just edge it out real nice, make clean lines all the way around. And that's how you trim a beard.
