Hi, this is Patrick Eaves. Today, I'm going to talk to you about how to control your speed on inline skates. Well, there's a few different ways to do this. One of the key factors in controlling your speed when you're learning to inline skate is picking a good place to skate. You don't want to be near any hills. You want to make sure you have some place flat like this. So that if you do start getting a little bit out of control and too fast, you can stop easily without gaining speed downhill. You definitely want to learn to do some of the stopping techniques. I recommend learning a T-stop and also learning you can regulate your speed a little bit by using your heel stop. Also, if you're in a park or some place where there are fences or railing, a great thing to do is to practice next to those fences or railings. Some place that you can easily grab onto, just to slow yourself down some if you are getting out of control. Ultimately, the best way to control your speed in the beginning is to start slow. Don't do anything out of control. Don't do any big movements or try to get too excited by really getting your glide big and fast. Start everything slow until you know all the basics. I hope this helps you get out and have some fun on your inline skates. If you have any questions about how to inline skate, the best thing you can do is contact a local instructor whether be it an inline instructor, roller hockey coach or your local specialty store, possibly a skate shopper or surf shop where they carry inline skates and probably have staff there that inline skate and can help you along to be safe while you're inline skating. Good luck and go get out there.
