Hi, my name is Adrian Heath. I'm the head coach of the Austin Aztex, and now we're going to demonstrate the principles of heading a football. Heading is one of the most important parts of the game if you're a defender. The most important thing to a defender is to keep your eyes on the ball, head at the bottom of the ball, and head it up in the air and out. Go again, [PH] Wes. You can head it up. Good. As you can see, a terrific header there from Wes. Now sideways like what Wes is doing. Use your neck muscles, push right through the ball and away it goes. Defensively, header again, he's out underneath the ball and heading it as far out as possible. Now, obviously, that is when you defend it. If you were playing in the middle of the field and you wanted to use it for a pass, to demonstrate, so you push the ball to people. To pass it to him with your head, now you hit with the middle of the forehead. Middle of the ball, forehead and push it through to people, so you can aim it to your right or to your left. It's very simple. Keeping his eye on the ball but his eyes open which is more important. Eyes open all the time. Watch the ball onto your forehead and push it through. So you just aim for me, Wes, wherever I am now. So you can see Wes; he's just angling his body and pushing it towards me. So we've seen the defensive header. Now we see, like, a midfielder plays header, where he's pushing the ball to people in the middle of the field. Now what happens is he's going to try and score a goal. So now, if we move across to the goal, you might want to head it down. So we've seen the defensive header, so we don't want it getting over the goal, Wes. Can you head it down into the corner? Terrific. And again. So now, again, same principles. He's watching the ball onto his head, and he's aiming it bottom corner and pushing it down. A couple more, Wes. So he's going to head it down. He's over the top of the ball and heads it down into the corner, down into the ground, making it difficult for the goalkeeper. Last one, Wes. There you go. And down it goes, terrific. That's the header.
