DR. CHRIS MANGO: Hi. This is Dr. Chris Mango here in New York City. On behalf of Expert Village, we're going to be taking a look at trigger points today. Now we're going to be taking a look at the levator scapulae. This muscle is responsible for when you can shrug your shoulders. People have problems with this all the time because they always feel like their shoulders are up and high and tight; that's because they usually are. So I'm going to show you where the muscle is and how to treat it and how to fix it. The levator scapula is located here. It runs from the corner part of the scapula up into the neck. Now, when we're having problems, the pain can show, as in shoulder pain or neck pain or coming down mid low back pain. Now, we're going to take a look at the trigger points that are located here and here. I'm going to show how to find those. This is one of the easier ones to find. Let me show you how to find this trigger point. For this one, you just want to follow the edge of the scapula up until it bends around, and then you got your spot. You can actually feel it 'cause most people have a crunch and click a little bit right in there, and then that's the spot you press and hold. Now, the secondary trigger point is just further up, following the muscle body right to the nape of the neck. Press and hold. Now let's move on to the next muscle.
